Through the Integrated Prevention and Earliest Help System, we will work with children, families, and young people to help ensure that every child, family and young person is supported to achieve his or her potential. The foundations for future mental health, emotional control, intelligence and parenting ability are all set in place in the early years and the home surroundings, family life and parenting are all important factors in determining positive outcomes for children in the future.

Family Support Keyworker Service deliver intensive support to those termed as ‘Troubled Families’ as part of the Integrated Prevention and Earliest Help offer. This is achieved by working closely and intensively with whole families using a single family plan with agreed outcomes that the family and professionals will work towards. The purpose of this is to address issues facing the whole family, improve outcomes for children and reduce dependence on high cost, specialist support services.

Many of these families have been involved with numerous agencies over a period of time, so the role holder needs to understand what the different agencies do, why they are involved and to identify the best way to work with them to achieve the best outcomes for children. The role holder will require strong leadership skills and the ability to develop and build capacity in the team working around the family, in order that team members are able to work effectively with families with multiple complex issues.

Specifically this post holder will:
• Engage hard to reach families who are unable or resistant to change. This will require flexibility, creativity and the willingness and ability to address the family’s needs.
• Lead a multi-agency professional team through the chairing of meetings,
providing appropriate challenge and accountability.
• Complete assessments and produce high quality delivery plans. Provide confident and competent understanding of thresholds ensuring that decisions made in relation to the child or young person are robust and safe.
• Ensure that the voice of the child/children is known, understood and informs the planning and work undertaken.
• Promote effective working between professionals and families.
• Work to the outcomes of the Troubled Families Agenda.
• Work with the whole family addressing the needs of each member.
• Work flexibly around the families’ needs, including working early, late and at weekends.
• Work within the “Signs of Safety” framework.
• Represent West Sussex Think Family/Early Help at relevant meetings and events. Offer outward facing support to other Early Help partners.
