We are currently recruiting for a Health & Safety Officer for a global company with an office based in the Plymouth area. This role is initially on a 6 month contract with a strong chance of an extension for the right candidate.

JOB PURPOSE:

The objective of this role is to be responsible for the overall Health & Safety of the Plymouth site, and for the ongoing development and implementation of Health & Safety policies together with the development of procedures to ensure compliance with all the UK Government and European Legislation.

 

Role Duties:

  • Development and maintenance of policies & procedures including Risk, Manual Handling, Noise Fire, COSHH and DSE Assessments
  • Assist in further developing quality procedures to enable the company to obtain ISO 18001 standard, and to integrate Health & Safety into a total Management System of Quality, Health, Safety & Environment
  • Set up a yearly programme of inspections and monitoring arrangements, on all company offices, manufacturing department and high profile construction sites. Report findings to relevant management and clients.
  • Carry out risk assessments across the site site and review on a regular basis.
  • Taking appropriate action when an accident or near miss incident occurs, investigate and interview staff to provide documented preventative actions. Report as required in accordance with current RIDDOR requirements.
  • Act as Chief Fire Marshall and co-ordinate the site fire, first aid, disable and emergency teams.
  • Implement the yearly heath surveillance programme, such as flu jabs, lung function testing, hearing tests, vision and colour testing.
  • Coordinate and purchase all relevant personal protective equipment for site use and manufacturing staff, recording individuals PPE details.
  • Coordinate the three blood donor visits by the blood transfusion services and act as focal point for the local industry.
  • Responsibility for the overall Health and Safety training programme including the induction of all new staff.

 

The Ideal Candidate:

  • NEBOSH Certificate of Health & Safety
  • Member of IOSH
  • NEBOSH Diploma part 1 & 2 (Desirable)
  • CMIOSH (Desirable)
  • Heavy Industrial Experience
  • Marine environment experience (Desirable)
  • Microsoft Office to an Intermediate level
  • Good negotiation skills
  • Working knowledge of Health & Safety international standards
  • Excellent communication skills, well organised and multi tasked
